Cañada de los Pájaros is a privately owned and managed wetland. The project transformed a former gravel pit used as a landfill into a haven for birds, a protected wetland with high biodiversity. It was declared a Nature Reserve in 1991, the first of its kind in Spain. Cañada de los Pájaros is the first privately funded project in Spain to restore and manage gravel pits, transforming a former landfill into a protected wetland dedicated to bird conservation, environmental education, and endangered species breeding programs.
